Agreement to Terms
By accessing or using the Homies website (meethomies.com) and services, you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, please do not use our services.
Homies provides life-sharing coordination services connecting adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities ("Clients") with supportive roommates ("Supportive Roommates") in California.
Eligibility
To use our services, you must:
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Be a California resident or seeking services in California
- Provide accurate and complete information during registration
- Have the legal capacity to enter into binding agreements
For Clients: You must be a client of a California Regional Center or be in the process of becoming one.
For Supportive Roommates: You must pass all required background checks and complete our training program.
Our Services
Homies provides:
- Matching services to connect Clients with compatible Supportive Roommates
- Screening and background check coordination
- Training and ongoing support for Supportive Roommates
- Coordination with Regional Centers
- Educational resources and community building
Homies acts as a coordinator and facilitator. The actual life-sharing arrangement is between the Client (and their Regional Center) and the Supportive Roommate.
User Responsibilities
All Users Agree To:
- Provide truthful and accurate information
- Maintain the confidentiality of any account credentials
- Notify us promptly of any unauthorized access
- Use our services only for lawful purposes
- Respect the privacy and dignity of all participants
- Comply with all applicable laws and regulations
Supportive Roommates Additionally Agree To:
- Complete all required background checks
- Participate in mandatory training programs
- Maintain a safe and appropriate living environment
- Report any concerns or incidents promptly
- Comply with all Regional Center requirements and regulations
- Maintain required certifications and clearances
Clients and Families Additionally Agree To:
- Provide complete and accurate information about support needs
- Communicate openly about expectations and preferences
- Work cooperatively with matched Supportive Roommates
- Notify us of any changes in circumstances or needs
Prohibited Conduct
You may not:
- Provide false or misleading information in applications
- Discriminate based on protected characteristics
- Engage in any form of abuse, neglect, or exploitation
- Use our services for any illegal purpose
- Attempt to circumvent our matching or screening processes
- Share confidential information about other participants
- Interfere with the operation of our website or services
Fees and Payment
For Clients: Homies services for Regional Center clients are typically funded through the Regional Center system. Any out-of-pocket costs will be clearly communicated before services begin.
For Supportive Roommates: There is no fee to apply to become a Supportive Roommate. Compensation is provided through the Regional Center funding system.
Intellectual Property
All content on the Homies website, including text, graphics, logos, images, and software, is the property of Homies or its licensors and is protected by copyright and trademark laws. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works without our express written permission.
Disclaimer of Warranties
Our services are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied. We do not guarantee:
- That we will find a suitable match for every Client or Supportive Roommate applicant
- The success or outcome of any life-sharing arrangement
- Uninterrupted or error-free operation of our website
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, Homies shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of our services. Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you have paid to Homies, if any, in the twelve months preceding the claim.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Homies, its officers, directors, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising from your use of our services, violation of these terms, or violation of any rights of another person.
Termination
We may suspend or terminate your access to our services at any time for:
- Violation of these Terms of Service
- Providing false or misleading information
- Conduct that may harm Clients, Supportive Roommates, or Homies
- Failure to maintain required clearances or certifications
Dispute Resolution
Any disputes arising from these terms or your use of our services shall be resolved through:
- Good faith negotiation between the parties
- Mediation, if negotiation is unsuccessful
- Binding arbitration in accordance with California law, if mediation is unsuccessful
These terms shall be governed by the laws of the State of California.
Changes to Terms
We may modify these Terms of Service at any time. We will notify users of material changes by posting notice on our website or sending an email. Your continued use of our services after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified terms.
Severability
If any provision of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the remaining provisions will continue in full force and effect.
