Empowering independence for Exceptional Minds students
California's first life-sharing program helps you find a supportive roommate who shares your interests and supports your goals.
Experience true independence with personalized support, community connection, and the freedom to live life on your terms.

What makes Homies different?
Homies connects you with a compatible supportive roommate based on your interests, needs, and lifestyle. Unlike traditional group homes, you live in a real home in the community with someone who becomes a true friend.
We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to live independently, make their own choices, and be part of a community that cares. That's why we created California's first life-sharing program.
- Live in your own home, not a facility
- Choose your own roommate
- Build genuine friendships
- Be part of your local community

Frequently asked questions
Get answers to common questions about life-sharing
Life-sharing is a supportive living arrangement where you share a home with a carefully matched roommate who provides personalized support while treating you as an equal partner in the household. It's about sharing life experiences together and building a genuine relationship.
Homies serves adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities who receive services through California's Regional Center system. As an Exceptional Minds student, you may already have Regional Center services. Contact us or your service coordinator to confirm eligibility.
We offer ongoing resources, guidance, and regular check-ins. Our team listens to concerns, provides mediation if needed, and supports adjustments to living arrangements. We're committed to the success of every match.
Our team considers your personal interests, required support, living habits, location preferences, and lifestyle to find the best match. We look at everything from hobbies to daily routines to ensure a strong foundation.
Roommates can be friends, neighbors, co-workers, family members (siblings, cousins), former staff, classmates, someone from your place of worship, or someone with a daytime job who provides support in evenings and mornings.
All supportive roommates undergo comprehensive background checks through state criminal court systems and the National Sex Offender database. They complete required training and must meet strict qualifications. We have a zero-tolerance policy for any violations.
